Words of the Week...

We all know how important it is to have a wide vocabulary at your disposal but learning new words doesn't have to be boring!  My year 9 students have been extending their vocabularies by making 15 second vocab tutorials using instagram.  They are getting better each week but we are still working on execution. Let us know what you think.

Here they are...

So, persuade me... you have 60 seconds... go!

I love love love your blogs.  My favourite part is that so many of you are writing with such strong and engaging voices!  I also love that you are sharing some really cool and interesting stuff related to media and persuasion.

Everyone has worked hard on their blogs this week and I am excited about hearing your persuasive speeches next week.  Please remember that your persuasive speech should be as close to 60 seconds as possible.  You will present the speech in class on Wednesday 22nd May or Friday 24th May and post the speech on your blog with an appealing blog post title by Friday.

Don't forget to keep commenting on each other's blog posts and responding to comments on your own blog as that is an important aspect of this blogging assignment (check out the rubric if you haven't already).

Next week, I will be sending a link out to parents inviting them to peruse your blogs so you have this weekend to tidy up.  Some of you have some spelling errors/typos to fix.

Live, love, blog (and study)

Mrs W

PS - We have been talking about how stereotypes can be used to persuade and I thought of this Heineken ad.  Take a look and let me know what you think?  Who is the target audience and how might the stereotype persuade the audience?

We Reach!

Woo hoo!  I am really excited to see that you have set up your blogs and can't wait to read your musings on all things media and persuasion.

Your first posts will be:

1) Your 'reasoned and balanced' candy bar argument
2)  Your explanation of how the ad that you selected arouses emotion.  Think about language, pictures, humour, music, camera angles or anything else that helps to arouse a particular emotion.

Make sure you think of creative and original blog-appropriate titles for each post.

Happy blogging!

Mrs Williams
